I'm leaving this morning (Thursday, June 5) for Austin and the 2008 Texas Democratic Convention. About 7,000 delegates plus thousands of alternates, media wonks and others are set to converge on Austin for what many of us hope will be more celebration than battle.
With Barack now the "Presumptive Nominee", we're hoping that we can begin to come together as a party united around our candidate. The stakes are too high to remain split, and half of the Democratic party isn't going to beat anyone in November.
I'll be blogging through the Convention, so stay tuned.
There's not a whole lot happening today. Parties, mostly. The real business begins on Friday, with issue caucuses in the morning and early afternoon, then Sentate District meetings later afternoon. Those SD meetings are where National Delegates, committee representatives and other party leaders will be elected, and are not without controversy of their own.
More to come.

Greg...it was'nt too long ago...we all met up somewhere in Fort Worth. We all came to a gym, nervous...wondering what we would be doing, what we could do as average citizens to help change the direction of our country.
Greg...after many battles, the day has come for you to represent #3361.
There were times, we just shook our heads at the competitors. Secret smiles between us left us knowing, with firm belief that OBAMA was the right choice for Grapevine and our Country.
Today I applaud you ... going into the lions den...with the HRC supporters...its going to be tough. With your ability to get folks to understand a position, and ability to argue the issues, I know we have the right man for the job in there today.
Not only have we fought the good fight, but we have become good friends. Good luck Sir and bring it home for Obama!
Thanks Lisa. Thanks for the support you gave me in our Group and at the SD convention. Thanks also for you passion for wanting to be part of the sorely needed fix for some of our country's problems. As I know I mentioned bfeore, once all this gets settled we will be throwing a precinct party! We'll look forward to hooking up then.
Greg,
I was, of course thrilled, that Sen. Obama has won the nomination. How is that playing out at the convention?
I have a few concerns left..
1. I thought that Sen. Clinton's Tuesday "concession" speach was ungracious.
2. The one today wasn't much better.
I'm especially concerned by her emphasis on ensuring HER health care plan gets passed. I'd be much happer with Obama's.
As you know, I'm a Re-Obama-ican, and it took me a great deal of research until Obama felt right to me and I felt that "Yes WE Can" was more than just a slogan.
I think Obama can bring real change to Washington, and one of the few ways to ruin it would be to bring Clinton and the Clinton machine back to Washington by participating on/in the ticket.
In spite of her "wish and hope" that her 18million will support Obama, I'm still uneasy.... what do you think?
